Over 800,000 people live with dementia in Britain and approximately 530,000 of those reside at home, being cared for by family members (Alzheimer’s Society, 2012). Dementia, and its symptoms, can have a profound effect, not only on the person living with the disease, but can place great strain on family relationships.
DysisCare aims to help families overcome some of the challenges faced by dementia by assessing the communication needs of those living with dementia and providing family members with skills to improve and prolong communication with their relative. The DysisCare team will develop an individual communications plan and will work actively with families to support and enhance important family relationships and ensure that families fully understand the type of dementia their loved one is living with, its symptoms and get access to support and guidance.
